Every road holds a story.
Every road holds a story.

Since publishing My Long Journey Home, I've noticed something again and again. Whenever I share that my husband was killed in the 9/11 attacks, people almost instinctively begin telling me where they were that day, what they felt, and how that moment impacted them personally.

For a long time, I struggled to understand that response. As I mentioned in my book, I didn't have the space to care how others felt...I was consumed with my new reality of life without my soulmate. But over time, the Lord showed me something very important: when people are faced with pain, loss, hope, or healing, the human instinct is to relate. We search for connection through our own experiences and stories.

I've seen that same pattern repeat after publishing my book. When people learn that it is an autobiography culminating in my testimony, many begin sharing pieces of their own journey:

"I've always wanted to tell my story."

"I started writing once but never finished."

"I wish I had the confidence to talk about my past."

Or sometimes, they simply begin sharing their testimony right there in the conversation.

I think deep down, many of us simply want to be heard.

Many of us have walked roads we never expected. If you choose to share part of your journey, please know that I read every submission with gratitude. With your selected permission, portions of stories may be included in future reflections or blog posts in the hope that God might use our stories to encourage one another along the way.
